What is Permethrin ?
It's a man-made chemical that is used globally to kill and control insects.
It's used in agriculture to keep insects from destroying the crop.
Lots of dog flea products contain it as their most active ingredient.
Many army units treat their uniforms with it when they are active in mosquito infected areas.
Some human medications contain permethrin to treat various complaints, the most commonly known are scabies and crabs.
How does Permethrin work ?
Once abosorbed it attacks the nervous system of the insect and kills it. The speed with which they die depends on the strength of the mix.
Mosquito nets are regularly treated with permethrin as mosquitoes tend to persistently search the net for small holes, and the longer they search the more chemical they absorb.
There are many well known products the world over that contain permethrin. K9 Advantix, for example, is 44% permethrin.
Is it the same as Octenol ?
No, almost the opposite.
Octenol attracts mosquitoes and other bugs so that a machine located near the attractant can kill or collect them. Permethrin, on the other hand, doesn't attract, repel or deter the mosquitoes, but when they land or walk on it the absorption begins and they're destined to die.
